My Portfolio Redesign: Minimalism

Why did I redo my portfolio?

A portfolio isn't just your project showcase. It's often the first contact someone has with your work, before a call or an interview. In a field where everything moves fast, where stacks change and competition is fierce, having a portfolio that's clear, fast, and truly reflects who you are makes a huge difference.

So I completely rethought this site, to make it much more minimalist while keeping it effective, with a few small easter eggs to give it personality and originality, so it doesn't end up flat or soulless.

The choice of minimalism

My old portfolio was effective and visually decent, but as I matured, gained experience, and improved my skills, I realized I had fallen into the trap of wanting to "impress" at all costs: too many effects, too many colors, too many elements moving in every direction. The result is often the opposite of what you're going for: you lose the visitor, dilute the message, and above all draw attention away from the real subject, the work itself.

So I decided to build this portfolio around minimalism: not too many effects, a simple and functional look. To me, this is what I'd call "a mature developer's portfolio." The idea behind it is that simplicity highlights the content rather than competing with it. Every visual element has a reason to be there.

The design ideas

The most interesting part was figuring out how to keep the same elements, but make them cleaner, simpler, and more… minimalist…

So I spent hours and hours in Figma, looking at every detail, rethinking every section, and thinking about how to make sure this site kept a soul of its own.

I also had to start from scratch to add the ability to switch the site between English and French, based on your browser's language, using next-international, which I had never done before. I'll admit it was a bit of a hassle, but I'm happy with this feature!

The challenge of an effective portfolio

A portfolio is never really "finished." It's a living project that evolves alongside you, your skills, and your interests. But one thing doesn't change: its job is to convince, quickly, with as little friction as possible.

A visitor landing on your portfolio makes a decision within seconds: is it worth continuing to explore, or do they leave right away? That's why clarity, fast loading, and showcasing the right projects matter far more than any impressive visual effect.

This site is my answer to that question. A space designed to get straight to the point, backed by a solid stack, and a design that makes room for the work instead of overshadowing it.
